Welcome to Day 6 of Aly's Holiday Extravaganza! And the LAST Day of what has been an exciting event!!!
Today I'm going to show you how to make a set of cards with a coordinating tin - perfect to give away as a gift set, or just to use on your own!
This project was made with a Simply Scrappin' Kit - even though these kits are for scrapbooking, you can get some wonderful cards out of them as well! All of the designer paper, accents, etc. that you see are included in this kit. Ribbons, brads and other accessories are separate.
The tin that I'm altering is actually a DVD Tin - I got it at www.effectuality.com. You can buy them individually, or save in bulk.
I'm only going to be doing the step-by-step process to the altered tin and not the cards - but I WILL explain how the cards were made.
And here's how to make it!
We'll start with the tin...
Step One: Here is what the tin looks like before you do anything with it:
Step Two: Cut two pieces of Designer Paper from the Simply Scrappin Kit (SSK) to fit on the front and back of the tin - round the corners with a Corner Rounder.
Step Three: Apply Sticky Strip to the BACK side (the side you don't want to show) of all four sides of the Designer Paper and adhere it to the front and back of the tin:
Step Four: Adhere a strip of Old Olive Textured Cardstock from the SSK to the front of the tin, and one of the strip accents from the SSK next to it - it will be longer then you need - trim off the excess:
Step Five: Place a tag from the SSK on a coaster and cut out with Craft & Rubber Scissors:
Step Six: When you're done cutting, it will be a little frayed -- use a Sanding Block to smooth out the edges:
Step Seven: When you're done sanding, apply a RubOn from "Season of Cheer" RubOns, I use an Empressor Stylus for best results:
Step Eight: Use the Crop-A-Dile to set a Pewter Jumbo Eyelet in the top of the tag:
Step Nine: Tie the tag to the tin with 1" stitched Chocolate Chip Ribbon:
Step Ten: The ribbon/tag unit will serve as a belly band - being able to slide on and off the tin as needed to get the cards out of the tin:
Step Eleven: Adhere a round accent from the SSK to the front of the tin, place a Hodgepodge Hardware circle over top of it and use a Paper Piercer to poke through the tin where entry ways need to be created for the brads:
Step Twelve: Set the coordinating Silver Brads through the entry ways - you'll need to open up the tin to do this:
And the tin is done!
Now for the cards...
The card base is Chocolate Chip Textured Cardstock from the SSK. It's a 6" x 3" card, which is my favorite card size from 12x12 paper - you just cut the paper into quarters and fold in half - getting 4 cards to a piece of cardstock. I cut this one into a 6" x 6" square before folding. Then I added a strip of Designer Series Paper from the SSK to the front of the card with SNAIL Adhesive followed by a self-adhesive strip Accent and Element from the SSK. Then I used the Crop-A-Dile to set a silver eyelet from Metallic Eyelets in the top of a self-adhesive Accent & Element tag from the SSK. Even though the accent has adhesive on it, I applied Stampin' Dimensionals all over the back so that it would be 3-Dimensional. I rubbed on the "Christmas Wishes" greeting from Old Saint Nick RubOns with an Empressor Stylus. Silver Cord is strung through the eyelet and tied in a knot, and then the whole tag unit was tied on to the card with Old Olive 5/8" Wide Grosgrain Ribbon. The button from Bold Brights Buttons has a piece of Silver Cord tied through it and then frayed apart. It was attached with a Mini Glue Dot. The bottom two corners were rounded with a Corner Rounder to finish it off.
The card base is Real Red Textured Cardstock taken from the SSK and cut a bit differently then the card above -- while the cardstock can still be cut in quarters, it's cut the other direction so you have four 12" x 3" pieces of cardstock that get folded the long way. You still have a 6" x 3" card when you're done. Then I adhered a strip of Designer Series Paper taken from the SSK to the top of the cardstock. The Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon was just tied around the Designer Series Paper and card. The bottoms of the card were rounded with a Corner Rounder. All of the ornaments are self-adhesive Accents & Elements from the SSK with Stampin' Dimensionals under them. I used a Crop-A-Dile at the top of each of them to secure a Silver Eyelet from Metallic Eyelets for the Silver Cord to string through. The cord is attached with a Mini Glue Dot underneath the Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon. The sentiment is a rub on from Word Flurries RubOns.
This card base is a 12" x 3" piece of Old Olive Textured Cardstock taken from the SSK and folded into a 6" x 3" card. I cut a piece of Designer Series Paper from the SSK and adhered it with SNAIL Adhesive to the side of the card. The next two strips are self-adhesive Accent & Element strips taken from the SSK and stuck down to the card. I tied a piece of 1/4" Chocolate Chip Grosgrain Ribbon between the strips. The two end corners are rounded with the Corner Rounder. The Chocolate Chip Textured Cardstock was cut from a piece in the SSK. A silver clip from Clips Assortment was clipped to the side and then the whole unit was mounted to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals. The scallop frame is a self-adhesive Accent & Element from the SSK, mounted to the Chocolate Cardstock with Stampin' Dimensionals. I went over the number 25 with a 2-Way Glue Pen and sprinkled Dazzling Diamonds Glitter over top of it.
The base of this card is a 6" x 6" piece of Old Olive Textured Cardstock taken from the SSK and folded in half to a 6" x 3" card. I rounded the bottom corners with a Corner Rounder. The printed strips are both strips from the self-adhesive Accents & Elements in the SSK adhered to the card. I then tied a piece of Real Red 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon above the Accent & Element strips. The scallop image is a self-adhesive Accents & Elements pieces from the SSK. Before I mounted it to the card with Stampin' Dimensionals I used a Paper Piercer to set Silver Brads through every other dot on the accent. The "I wish" red circle accent is a self-adhesive Accent & Element from the SSK as well - adhered with Stampin' Dimensionals.
The base of this card is a 6" x 6" piece of Chocolate Chip Textured Cardstock from the SSK folded in half to make a 6" x 3" card. I cut a piece of Designer Series Paper from the SSK and adhered it to the card with SNAIL Adhesive. The strip below it is a self-adhesive Accent & Element from the SSK stuck down. I used the Paper Piercer and Mat Pack from the Crafter's Tool Kit to pierce the holes along the bottom of that strip. Then I tied a piece of 1/4" Old Olive Grosgrain Ribbon around the card, securing it with a ribbon slider from Styled Silver Hodgepodge Hardware. I then adhered the two scallops, one on top of the other to the card - both are self-adhesive Accent & Elements from the SSK. I then used the 1-3/8" Circle Punch to punch out the Chocolate Chip Textured Cardstock from the SSK. I adhered it to the top scallop with Stampin' Dimensionals. The circle over top of that is a self-adhesive Accent & Element from the SSK stuck down. The bottom corners are rounded with a Corner Rounder.
The base of this card is a 6" x 6" piece of Real Red Textured Cardstock taken from the SSK and folded in half to create a 6" x 3" card. I first stuck down the berry Accent & Element strip from the SSK to the card. Then I used the Crop-A-Dile to set a Silver Eyelet from Metallic Eyelets to the top of the ornament. I strung a piece of Silver Cord through it and tied in a knot. Chocolate Chip 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon was tied around the entire card, when tying it in place, the ornament was slipped on to be tied in. Stampin' Dimensionals are adhered behind the ornament. I rubbed on the sentiment with an Empressor Stylus from the Season of Cheer RubOns package. All of the berries and the center stripe of the ornament are coated with Crystal Effects for a 3-D effect. The bottom corners are rounded with the Corner Rounder.
And you're done!!!!
